    Ahem.

IT IS WITH GREAT HONOR WE ANNOUNCE THE CREATION OF THE JABBERCRACKY CRACKING COMPETITION. πŸ—£

The Jabbercracky is a community hash cracking event for people of all skill levels. We host realistic time-locked password cracking events designed to be fun and competitive for the cybersecurity and cryptographic communities with an arcade inspired theme.

This was a fun project I have been working on to create a different type of hash cracking CTF/event for the community. The plan is to seasonally host hash-cracking events where we provide several created hash challenges for players to crack. Players can participate as individuals or as part of a team. When the event is not active, players can practice cracking past hash lists and continue to earn points and loot.

When an event is active, the leaderboard will swap to a contest mode and behave like a CTF, allowing submissions up to the final moment for a photo finish. In addition to cracking hashes, a fun item mechanic was introduced for a β€œlooter” game concept to share some laughs.

The intention is to provide this service free for everyone and continue to build themed hash lists for the community. The site is stable but still considered to be in β€œopen-beta” so any issues, ideas, or feedback, please reach out and report.

As the year goes on, we hope to host multiple events, work with different event types, and currently planning an event for February and/or April. Currently, the Halloween hash list is available for people to have fun with.

    Huzzah!

I stumbled upon this a bit early when I noticed the link on your GitHub page. Having played around with it a bit so far, it's very intuitive to use, and I can't wait to participate in future events!

Been working on some stuff behind the scenes and there have been many changes and updates to the site, including some new systems to interact with your hard-earned loot. At this point, safe to say open beta is over and thank you to everyone who took the time to register and interact with the site.

With that being said, the first event will be on February 13th and go for several days depending on the number of hash lists released. We want to ensure that everyone has a chance to participate and enjoy the contest. Once the event starts, the leaderboard is temporarily reset to only the new lists to give everyone an equal playing field. Once the event ends, all points and items are carried back over and the game continues.

The next update will be about the number and types of lists that will be released. πŸŽ‰

With the event slated for this week, some additional details on what to expect:

            • The event will start on February 13th and will run until February 18th (2025).
            • The event countdown will signal the start or stop of the event.
            • While the event is active, the leaderboard will be temporarily reset to only the latest hash lists and those participating in the event.
            • When the event ends, submissions stop and winners are announced. The final leaderboard will remain active for 12 hours, then reset back to the "main game" version, where all founds and items are carried back over.
            • Three NEW hash lists will be released for the game!

Thank you to everyone for their patience as we work to make this first event as smooth as possible. This looks like it could be our largest event of the year, so one you do not want to miss.

Thank you again to everyone for playing and taking interest. Many people have provided feedback, and we will be using it for future events. The site will be usable as normal 12 hours from the end of the contest and all lists will become available again.

There will be a longer post about post wrap up reflections but in the interest of time. Providing some quick information about each list:

                    Hash list 3: 243,992/250,000 recovered
Hash list 4: 4000/250,000 recovered (max without secret)
Most active list: hash list 2 with 20 users

                    Highest Recoveries

Hash list 2: 165,700 by tycho

Many lessons learned with list 4 and there are many changes on the way, so stay tuned for updates. Until then, look forward to the next event announcement. Additionally, all feedback is reviewed, so feel free to voice any thoughts.

                        πŸ‘‹

There have been many changes since we launched this year. We now host monthly events and are planning for a competitive event this October.

Every month, a casual list is released with a fun theme to practice on and be friendly to people new to the trade craft and twice a year, we aim to host a highly competitive event for the pros.

The next competitive event will be on Friday Oct 10 2025 and run for a week like all events.

One of our major goals is to provide a place for people to get into the trade craft, no matter the skill level. The community has been outstanding and continues to drive development, so thank you for the support!
